Community Visitors Scheme (CVS)

Community Visitors Scheme (CVS)

The Community Visitors Scheme is a national government program funded by the Department of Health. The scheme aims to enrich the quality of life of people living in aged care facilities or in the community, who are socially isolated or lonely, and would benefit from a friendly visitor.

There are three aged care facilities in Springwood where the scheme operates. Blue Mountains residents in receipt of a Home Care Package are also eligible for this free service. Volunteers are matched with a suitable resident and visit them on a regular basis (usually weekly or fortnightly).

These visits are flexible in order to suit the needs, interests and availability of each volunteer and resident. Visits can comprise of simply chatting over a cup of tea, or perhaps playing cards or board games. Knitting/craft, reading, watching a movie, listening to music or looking through photos are also popular activities. The options are endless!

Springwood Neighbourhood Centre offers its volunteers ongoing support, training opportunities, and reimbursement of out-of-pocket travel expenses. All CVS volunteers must undergo a National Police Check and attend a CVS orientation session here at the Centre prior to starting.

Volunteering with this program is a great way to enrich others’ lives as well as your own. If you are interested in being part of our wonderful team of CVS volunteers, please contact Jo Newton on 4751 3033 or cvs@sncc.org.au.
