(aged care facilities and nursing homes only)
Volunteer visitors form rewarding friendships with local nursing home residents and we look forward to chatting with anyone who may be interested in joining the Scheme.
Assistance can be short term or long term, depending on the needs of the individual. Volunteers usually visit the service user on a regular basis eg. once a week or fortnight. This arrangement can be flexible however to suit the service user and the voluinteer.
Volunteers are given support, training and are reimbursed for out-of-pocket expenses.
The Community Visitors’ Scheme is a national program funded by the Australian Government. CVS aims to enrich the quality of life of residents in aged care homes who are socially isolated or lonely, and who would benefit from a friendly visitor.
There are 3 nursing homes in Springwood where visitors are matched with residents. While travel costs are reimbursed we aim to match visitors with residents in local homes so that the experience extends the visitor’s sense of community.
Visitors spend approximately half an hour once a fortnight chatting, playing cards or board games or reading to the resident, whatever activity is comfortable for both parties.
Sharing your time and your interests with a local nursing home resident will help them feel better about themselves and improve their quality of life.
If you are interested in being part of the Scheme, please call and have a chat with Kate Blair on 4751 3033.
